Why young people today would want to have anything to do with a clapped-out and corrupt institution like the Catholic Church is utterly beyond me.
As for paying taxes to promote the Catholic Church, guess who paid for the spires on St. Mary’s Cathedral in Sydney a few years ago? Notre Dame doesn’t even have spires, but oh no, we had to have them.
All part of the increasing “get ‘em while they’re young” tactics of religions - the catholics have obviously seen the success big corporate megachurches like Hillsong are having and are trying to get in on the act. There’s nothing more passionate than an ignorant teenager, especially when an instant social network and ‘sense of belonging’ is a big part of the equation.
Hopefully the vast majority will wake up to themselves when they actually have some experience of life.
But the tax payers dollars the government has given to the Catholics for ‘World Youth Day’ (how dare they call it that!) is, while not surprising, just obscene. Our government is paying $40 million dollars to the racing industry for use of the Randwick Racecourse (irony anyone?) How disgusting is that?
