His work does tend to polarise opinion—but have you ever seen a Pollock ‘in the flesh’? They are amazingly alive, full of energy and emotion, and monumental. Blue Poles: Number 11 1952 at the National Gallery in Canberra (which caused a huge controversy when I was a child for being purchased for the then unbelievable sum of two million dollars—pretty good deal as it turned out) was one of my early ‘abstract art’ epiphanies.
Like all works of art, they are impossible to truly appreciate from reproductions.

Pollock was a true genius in my opinion. An original thinker in a desert of mediocrity. Oh to have someone shake up the art world like that now.
